Crown Keepers

Ten students. Eight schools. More than thirteen creative disciplines in one room, building toward a final pitch. That’s a cohort of Creative Currency, the 10-week creative entrepreneurship program at CrownKeepers, an arts organization at 1824 Statesville Avenue in Charlotte. Its tagline: “Where passion fuels profit.”

Davita and Dion Galloway co-founded CrownKeepers in Charlotte in 2015 to empower underrepresented artists and emerging creatives through art, community, and education. Talent is everywhere, but the system rarely hands young artists a map for turning it into a living. So they built one. Creative Currency covers marketing and selling your work, mental health and self-care, legal and ethical basics, and the pitch itself. They say they listen before they build, and that they create with communities, not just for them.

The rest of the calendar is just as hands-on. IMPRINT is a series of free workshops that put neighbors in a room with local artists, including a beginner crochet session. Da Art of Storytellin’ gathers intimate conversations about the journeys behind creative lives. There’s even a community plant exchange.
