Davita and Dion Galloway started DUPP&SWAT, a creative studio in Charlotte, in 2010 for a simple reason: they were two siblings who needed somewhere to make things. So they made the somewhere.
Since then it has grown into what they call a creative ecosystem, a platform and safe space in Charlotte for artists, entrepreneurs, organizations, and the creatively curious. Local artists' work hangs on the walls. Intimate events and workshops fill the calendar, hosted by public and private groups alike. And for more than 15 years, the team has helped organizations turn ideas into experiences people take part in instead of just attend: exhibitions, activations, community engagement, educational programming.
Young people have a seat here too. The studio hosts LEAF Co-Learning Collective's Art Education Residency, where creatives ages 10 and older get the time, space, materials, and mentorship to build their own artwork and projects.
