Joseph Prater’s booking page promises a reply within 48 hours. Unless he’s in the wilderness. Then he’ll answer when he’s back online. That tells you most of what you need to know about WizSnaps, a landscape photographer and photography tour guide based in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Joey, who also goes by Wandering Wiz, learned to shoot in the Blue Ridge Mountains, chasing sunrises, fog, and storms across the ridgelines. More recently he’s been guiding photography tours in Yellowstone. Now he’s taking them anywhere: national parks, remote landscapes, the place that’s been on your bucket list for years. Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Glacier, Zion, the Smokies.
The trips are built around slowing down. Not overlook to overlook, collecting photos. He’ll wait out a storm for the light to break, find wildlife at dawn, set up timelapses under the stars, and talk by the campfire. Sometimes the plan is just standing quietly while the weather rolls in. Groups are small, two to four people, and all skill levels are welcome. Whether you shoot every day or just want to reconnect with nature, the goal is the same: experience a place in a genuine way.
The tour menu also includes a Congaree swamp walk, Blue Ridge overlooks, waterfalls, sunrise or sunset shoots, nightscapes, a lighthouse, and a cityscape. Can’t travel? Book a one-hour video critique. Joey goes through your photos one-on-one and gives honest feedback on composition, light, editing, and style.
