The kind of paper shop where a sticker sheet is called “Freaky friends” and the washi tape is “Weird cookies” does not come from a corporate catalog. Good Postage is an independent paper goods company in Charlotte, run by a mother-daughter team out of a studio at Camp North End.
Jane Manfredi, a graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, draws all the art by hand. Her mom, Karen, is the editor, the business manager, and, in her own words, the “mom-boss.” The cards cover birthdays, sympathy, pets, plants, and zodiac signs, and they’re printed locally on recycled paper with packaging meant to be composted or recycled. Their line is “good illustrations, good thoughts and good eco-friendly materials.”
The shelves go well past cards: fountain pen ink, sketchbooks, planners, and Japanese stationery brands that are hard to find in the Charlotte area. It’s a good stop if you want to buy something made by a real person for a real person.
