Troubadour Booksellers

Troubadour Booksellers is an independent bookstore at 1721-7C Sardis Rd N in East Charlotte, NC. Owner Scott Tynes-Miller grew up in a New York town of about 500 people with no bookstore. When he visited Gallery Bookshop in Mendocino, California, in 2019, he started planning his own.

Before the shop, Tynes-Miller spent about 15 years in Charlotte’s theatre scene and eight years in fundraising at Children’s Theatre of Charlotte. He left that job to run Troubadour full time. He raised money to stock the shelves through an Indiegogo campaign, and the store opened in October 2024.

Troubadour sells only new books, for all ages, with a general-interest mix that leans toward acclaimed adult fiction. Some sections are curated by local nonprofits and community groups. You’ll also find puzzles, journals, pens and gifts, with seating if you want to read for a while. The calendar has book clubs, story times, signings and release parties.

The store hosts people from the neighborhood who want a place to gather. Tynes-Miller described the idea as a “community living room.”

Stop in Tuesday through Sunday and find a seat.
