Park Road Books

Park Road Books has a Banned Book Book Club, a Geek Book Club, a Romantasy Book Club, and a Foodie Book Club. That's before you get to the author events.

It's been the cornerstone of Charlotte's independent bookstores since 1977, in the Park Road Shopping Center, and it's still independently owned and operated. It's a frequent winner of Creative Loafing's Best of Charlotte readers' pick, and it's built around one idea: finding the right book for the right person. It deals in new books only, and doesn't buy, sell, or trade used ones.

The calendar is where the store shows its range. Poetry readings, memoir launches, cookbook signings, a new book on Charlotte's historic maps, and Saturday-morning story times for kids, most weeks of the month. Local writers can sign up for a consignment program, and there's a shelf's worth of Charlotte history in the Mecklenburg Historical Society section.

You can order online, ask what's in stock by phone, or just walk in and ask someone what to read next. Gift certificates and Park Road Books T-shirts cover the people on your list who already own everything.
