Manolo's Bakery

Manolo’s Latin Bakery, at 4405 Central Ave in Charlotte, lists 12 kinds of tres leches cake on its menu. They include Vanilla Caramel, Churros, Nutella, Cheerwine and Pistachio. Each is a two-layer sponge cake soaked in a four-milk blend.

Manuel Betancur, known as Manolo, has run the bakery for 29 years. The site calls it the first Latin bakery in Charlotte. More than 65 breads rotate with the seasons, including conchas and empanadas. Around the Day of the Dead, the bakery makes Pan de Muerto. There are also vegan, gluten-free and allergy-friendly options.

The bakery’s work goes past the counter. Betancur made three trips to Ukraine to bring money, bread and support to bakers and communities there, and he received the World Bread Hero Award in 2021. His nonprofit, By Immigrant Hands, takes donations through the bakery’s site. In 2026 he opened The Changebaker Place, a café next door.

The shop is open every day, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday. You can pre-order online for pickup.
