Albertus and Nicollette Booysen came to America looking for good food. They found it at Hoof & Barrel — and then they just... stayed, and eventually made it theirs.
Everything gets made from scratch, starting early: hand-formed Angus patties, hand-cut steaks, chimichurri built in-house rather than poured from a bottle. The menu reads like a dare — burnt turkey ends buried in house queso, a burger called the Jalapeño Business, a plate that somehow works even though "burnt turkey ends and queso" makes no sense written down.
Then there's the cowbell. Every service, one random table gets a meal comped entirely — no sign-up, no rewards app, no fine print. It rings, somebody's dinner is free, and that's the whole mechanic.
